TANKS, DRIPPERS, MODS, ATOMIZERS ... WHAT?

Here is some of the common terminology you may come across when beginning your journey and as you progress further into the world of Vaping. Use this guide as a reference point to ensure that you're looking for the right solutions when thinking about a purchase.

  • Clearomizer / Tank:
    • This refers to any part of a Vape that holds eLiquid. Tanks have various capacities and features; some fill from the top, some from the bottom, some have massive adjustable airflow for more vapor production, others have tighter draws that are more like a cigarette. Most tanks also have several options for Atomizer resistances.
  • Atomizer / Coil:
    • An atomizer produces the vapor. You can think of an atomizer being like an electric coil stovetop, when electricity is passed through the coil, it heats up and vaporizes the eLiquid. Atomizers are usually tank specific, and can come in a variety of resistances.
  • Resistance:
    • In terms of vaping, the resistance is a measure of the capabilities of the coil. The closer the resistance is to 0 (0.5ohm, 0.2ohm, etc) the hotter the coil can burn, resulting in more vapor production, stronger hits, and a warmer vape. Resistances below 1ohm are considered 'Sub-Ohm' and generally are best suited for use with lower nicotine levels by those who want big vapor production. Resistances above 1ohm are much more mellow. Because most Tanks have a variety of resistances available, it's important to experiment with different coils to discover which one best suits your needs, and ensure your mod is capable of firing those resistances.
  • Mod / Battery / Control Body:
    • Nowadays, a Mod can refer to anything capable of firing an Atomizer, mods can have built in batteries of various length, different power options, and different features that all combine to give you greater control over the experience, such as:
      • Variable Wattage / Voltage: Allows you to turn your device up or down to control the amount of power pushed to the atomizer, higher wattages will produce a warmer vape and more vapor production and are well suited for Atomizers that have a lower resistance. IMPORTANT: Most atomizers have a suggested wattage / voltage range, and exceeding this range can burn the coil, which not only tastes awful but can cause the coil to start to leak.
      • Variable Temperature: Variable Temperature allows you finer control over the actual heat produced by the coil in terms of Degrees. Variable temperature modes require specific types of coils to operate properly. Variable temperature is also supposed to prevent 'dry hits' with it's temperature sensing function, but the technology still has a ways to progress.
      • Passthrough: Refer's to a mod's ability to be used while charging.
      • Mechanical / Tube Mod: These are unregulated devices that should only be used by experienced vapors. Come into the shop if you would like to discuss how these work and we can figure out if it's the right option for you or not. Devices like these are most commonly used with Drippers or other Rebuildables.
  • Rebuildable / Dripper / RDA / RTA:
    • eparate from Tanks, rebuildables are for the hobbyist vapor or vapor looking for the biggest cloud and flavor that they can get. A rebuildable device requires coils to be manually installed into a build deck and wicked by hand. An 'RDA' is a term for a rebuildable dripping atomizer that has virtually no reservoir for eLiquid, so it must be dripped onto the wick often. An 'RTA' is the same concept except it does contain a reservoir that will hold eLiquid like a tank. This is also considered advanced hardware as precision must be used to avoid short circuits.
  • Juice / eJuice / eLiquid:
    • Juice is the most common term referring to an eLiquid. eLiquid comes in various nicotine strengths (or no nicotine,) and in more flavours than can be reasonably imagined. There isn't much to eLiquid, but the most common variation is the VG / PG ratio, or the Max VG variety:
      • VG (Vegetable Glycerine) and PG (Proplyene Glycol)
        • VG is what produces the bulk of the vapor production, it is a thick liquid with a slightly sweet taste that comes in various ratios. PG is a thinner liquid that generally carries the Nicotine and the Flavoring. PG also adds to the 'bite' of the eLiquid.
        • Max VG refers to any eLiquid that contains no extra added PG. This liquid is very thick and can be preferred by Cloud Chasers and Hobbyists.
